CONCEPT BUS * Malaysia - Freight & Bus Concept
This is the FreightBUS, a concept bus that can handle both passengers and goods, in hopes of getting transport vans off the roads
Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia -Paul Tan, by Hugh Frost -December 7, 2008: -- ... The FreightBUS’s interior can automatically be adjusted by the driver or the conductor to very between passenger space and freight space according to needs and demand... According to inventor Hugh Frost’s own calculations, public bus occupancy in London only averages out at 20%, which makes them not as efficient as they should be as there are plenty of unused capacity. The idea is to use them to carry freight at off peak hours such as the evening and overnight so that ROI on the buses can be maximised... When the loading area is dedicated to passengers, it can fit 90 seated passengers and 40 standing passengers, or 52 seated passengers with 98 standing passengers. In full freight configuration it can accumulate 35 europallets. An europallet is a standard size transport structure which measures 80cm by 120cm by 12cm...
The FreightBUS can be configured to be an EV or a fuel cell vehicle. Fuel cell stacks together with hydrogen tanks or EV batteries can be stored in the 200mm deep space in the main floor of the bus. It can use either a centralised motor or in-wheel motors. An 80% recharge is said to be possible in 1 minute, with a specialised charger...Labels: concept buses
Bus Concept * The Netherlands - Dutch Super One, Capable of 155 mph
The Netherlands -Winding Road (Ann Arbor,MI,USA ), by Seyth Miersma -March 6th, 2008: -- This odd vehicle is a public transportation concept being developed by the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, partly at the behest of the Dutch government... This highly streamlined Future Bus is aimed at providing convenient, and even personalized public transportation, at speeds that will rival Europe’s railway lines. The sleek profile and small frontal area of the bus concept are said to allow it to travel at up to 155 mph... At nearly 50 feet long, and 8 feet wide, the Future Bus should have a seating capacity of up to 50 passengers. Those passengers will be able to use the bus in a sort of a la carte way, most likely using mobile phones or web devices to help determine stops and pick-up points... Despite the revolutionary nature of the Future Bus, researchers are hoping to have a demonstration vehicle built sometime this year...Labels: concept buses
A bus that gets 30 miles per gallon? * USA - Kitsap Transit hopes so
Seattle,Wash,USA -The Seattle Post Intelligencer, by Monica Guzman -February 5, 2008: -- Environmental advocates and fans of The Jetsons will probably agree that Kitsap Transit's hybrid passenger bus is a step in the right direction... The Bremerton-based transportation agency is working up a prototype for a bus that will use less than half as much gas as its current fleet. They're getting help from the Vehicle Research Institute at Western Washington University... So far, technicians have only determined that the bus will be a fuel/electric hybrid. What type of fuel the bus will run on hasn't been determined... Kitsap Transit is piloting the design, but WWU officials say at least 10 other regional transit systems are keeping their eyes on the project, which could take several years to complete...
