GPS System * New Zealand - Public transport Global Positioning System to get a trim

Wellington,New Zealand -Stuff.co.nz/The Dominion Post, by TOM PULLAR-STRECKER -18 February 2008: -- It's only recently been given the go- ahead, but Greater Wellington regional council is already trying to shave $3 million off the cost of a real- time passenger information system that will track buses and trains by satellite and provide estimated arrival times to passengers... The council approved plans in November to equip the region's 500 buses and 65 trains with GPS-based equipment, estimating the system would cost $12.8 million to buy and $2.2 million a year to run, but asked officials to look at ways to cut costs...
