Ontario Premier, Kathleen Wynne, was at a Brampton Transit depot Monday morning to announce her government is providing $10 million over four years to the Canadian Urban Transit Research and Innovation Consortium (CUTRIC) to help develop next generation transportation technologies focused on reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions... Transit services in Durham, Oakville, York Region, Woodstock, St. Catharines, Ottawa and Kingston are also part of the proposed demonstration project at this early stage... Electric buses can cost about $1 million each. While the electric vehicles are expensive to purchase, she noted, Brampton’s current stable of diesel and bio-diesel buses are also expensive to run...
