NEW BUSES' RELIABILITY * USA
* California - Muni’s newest buses break down less often, data shows
-- Muni’s newest motor buses break down a whole lot less than their older counterparts... That’s according to data released this month by the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, which noted the 40-foot New Flyer hybrid buses from 2013 are roughly twice as reliable as the older buses, the 40-foot coaches constructed by Neoplan circa 2001... The reliability is measured by mean distance based on how many miles Muni buses travel before they break down... The New Flyers hovered between 10,000 and 12,000 miles for most of 2015, and early 2016, before they required major maintenance. By contrast, the Neoplan buses required similar maintenance between about 5,000 and 6,000 miles, but were known to reach lows of near 4,000 miles between failures in 2013... It’s unclear how that affects on-time performance of the buses, however... (Photo from The S.F. EXAMINER, by Joe Fitzgerald Rodriguez) -- San Francisco, CAL, USA - The S.F.
