Santiago,Chile -The Santiago Times, by Celia Scruby -Jun 1st, 2014: -- Minister says 'Santiago’s transport system to become ‘best in Latin America’... Around two thirds of funds in the 2014-18 Transantiago improvement project will go toward expanding and repairing the city’s bus network... Commuters will be able to surf the net while riding the bus in the not-too-distant future... Over the next four years, the Transport Ministry intends to: create a pay-by-phone fare system; control ticket evasion by applying new alerts in buses; introduce benefits and discounts for frequent users of Bip, the Santiago travel card; install wifi on buses; introduce fines for bus drivers that skip stops; begin a pay-by-Bip public bicycle network; improve the effectiveness of Lines 2, 3 and 4 of the Metro and pour significant investment into expanding lanes and improving the bus service...
