* NYC Transit agents ticket riders without proof-of-payment receipts on Select Bus Service routes

New York,NY,USA -The New York Daily News, by Pete Donohue -October 30, 2010: -- Enforcement agents have started handing out $100 tickets to riders without proof-of-payment receipts on the new Select Bus Service route in Manhattan... Since Tuesday, NYC Transit special inspectors have handed out about 40 farebeating tickets a day along the route, which features curbside machines on First and Second Aves. for riders to pay before boarding, officials said... For the first two weeks of the new service, which is designed to speed bus travel, the inspectors with NYC Transit's security department only gave warnings. They also helped riders unfamiliar with the payment scheme... That assistance continues, said Vincent DeMarino, agency vice president of security... Suva,Fiji Islands -The Fiji Village, by Shalvin Deo -30 Oct 2010: -- More than two thousand buses in the country have been checked by the Land Transport Authority in the past two weeks to ensure all drivers and passengers comply with issuance and the production of tickets upon demand by LTA officers... The campaign was launched on the 6th of this month... The issuance of Traffic Infringement Notice for Bus Ticketing started on Tuesday this week... LTA Spokesperson, Doreen Narayan said 21 drivers were booked as of Thursday, for failure to issue tickets to passengers... She said a number of passengers have also been booked by LTA officers for failing to produce the ticket upon demand... According to LTA the aim of this campaign is to maintain bus fare at an affordable level and more importantly to avoid any future fare increase... LTA has warned that anyone who fails to produce the ticket will pay a fixed penalty of $50 and maximum $500 or 3 months imprisonment...
