TROUBLES * USA - Staten Island parents fume as special ed students spend hours on buses
Staten Island,NY,USA -The Staten Island Advance/SILive.com -September 22, 2008: -- Some school bus drivers appear to be in a bit of a rush this month: Between serving more children and covering longer routes, drivers of special ed buses are struggling to meet near-impossible demands... Not only are more children being crowded onto each bus, but routes are starting earlier and ending later, leaving some children trapped on a bus for two or three hours at a time... The Department of Education cut back on more than 200 special ed bus routes this year. But while the city is saving more than $28 million, Staten Island parents say it's costing their children a sound education...
