STRIKE * Canada - Viva Bus Driver Strike Looms Monday In Toronto

Toronto,Ontario,Canada -AHN, by Vittorio Hernandez -September 17, 2008: -- The Amalgamated Transit Union Local 113 warned Toronto commuters of a pending bus strike Monday by Viva drivers over unpaid sick leaves... Talks between the powerful union, which lead the Toronto Transit Commission strike in spring, and the bus management had dragged since April, prompting Bob Kinnear, president of local 113, to push for a Monday strike to pressure Viva to come out with a better deal for the transit firm's 200 drivers. Viva bus drivers are paid $20.75 an hour, which is $5 less compared to TTC drivers... Viva is operated by Veolia Transportation, a Paris-based firm that runs transit systems in different parts of the world. It won the contract to run the Toronto bus routes in 2005...
