* India - Himachal buses to get electronic ticketing machines
Shimla,Himachal Pradesh,India -Monsters and Critics.com (Glasgow,UK)/IANS -Aug 26, 2006: -- Buses in Himachal Pradesh will get a facelift as the roadways authorities plan to install electronic ticketing machines... "To start with, the state government plans to install these machines in some two dozen of its buses operating on long routes some time next month", said an official of the Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (HPRTC) here... It would be the bus driver's responsibility to distribute the machine-generated tickets after collecting money from passengers...

* India - CCTVs on buses
MUMBAI,India -The Times of India - 26 Aug, 2006: -- After railway stations, BEST buses too are being fitted with close circuit cameras to allow the authorities to keep an eye on trouble-makers... On Friday, CM Vilasrao Deshmukh unveiled a CCTV, a smart card machine (for automated fare collection) and a local phone installed on a BEST bus... The undertaking's general manager Uttam Khobragade announced that all the buses will be equipped with cameras in the next three months. He said 200 buses will have smart card systems in the same period...

* USA - Buses will be tracked by GPS

Gone are the days when they would have to wait for the bus, now they'll know where it is and when it will arrive at the stop... "We have equipped our 85 coach fleet with what we call automated vehicle locating systems,” said Steve Spade of Chapel Hill Transit. “It's a GPS tracking device that allows us to know where each bus is and the bus actually knows what its schedule is supposed to be."...
