Incidents - Australia - Council buses cop a hiding

Queensland, Australia -Brisbane Courier Mail, by Jason Gregory -30 Jan 2006: -- Ratepayers are being slugged $6000 a day to repair damage to Brisbane City Council buses, alarming new figures show... About 16,000 "incidents" were reported in the past five years, or about 10 a day, ranging from bus drivers running over pedestrians to hoons throwing bricks through bus windows... The report also showed bus drivers received more than 400 traffic fines, including 193 red-light camera infringements and almost 110 speeding tickets... More than 70 of the speeding tickets involved drivers exceeding the limit by up to 30km/h... Many incidents were not the fault of bus drivers, who had to deal with louts throwing stubbies, bricks, rocks and other objects at their vehicles... Some drivers were assaulted, others were spat on or threatened... Some of the most common incidents were drivers hitting poles, cyclists, fixed and mobile electronic signs, pedestrians, cars, trees, overhanging branches and shop fronts...
