Units could pay for themselves in 12 years through savings in diesel fuel costs

At $77.9 million, the contract is one of the largest diesel-electric hybrid bus orders to date, with the partnership allowing the agencies to maximize purchasing power and reduce per-vehicle costs through volume purchasing... Transit agencies joining San Joaquin in the consortium include Benicia Transit, Livermore Amador Valley Transit Authority, San Mateo County Transit and the Humboldt Transit Authority, among others...
