Replacement - India - Mumbai's ageing buses to be replaced by year-end

Mumbai,India - Indiacar.net, by Harish C. Menon -01 Nov 2005: -- Replacement of Mumbai's ageing buses that are more than 15 years old will be completed by the end of this year... According to an official of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking,.. BEST would replace 1,282 buses, include 278 double-decker buses, that are more than 15 years old by 2005-end at a cost of Rs.2.4 billion ($53 million)... The process began after a December 2003 Mumbai High Court order asking BEST to make the replacement... Out of the 3,391 BEST buses, 725 are double-deckers, modelled on London's double-deckers and have been plying on the city's roads since 1937...
