TRANSPORT NEWS * UK - Bus division boosts Arriva profits
Sunderland,UK -The Press Association -5 March 2008: -- Transport group Arriva said a strong performance from its UK bus division helped annual operating profits improve by 7% last year... Arriva, which runs 6,500 buses in cities including Liverpool and Leeds, posted a surplus of £128 million, although the figure was impacted by higher fuel prices and the cost of bidding for three rail franchises... Helped by marketing initiatives and increased demand, the bus arm achieved a 16% profits increase to £87.9 million, with revenues up 7% to £814.7 million. The improvement came despite fuel price increases costing £8 million in 2007... Arriva's bus services outside of London carried 414 million passengers in 2007, an increase of around 2%. It said overall customer satisfaction rose, with 91% of customers being "fairly satisfied" or better...Labels: transport news
